The intersection at Railroad Avenue and Simpson Street will be improved, including realignment of the island, new crosswalks from the island to City Hall and from the Simpson Street sidewalk to the island; installation of new signage (stop sign) on Simpson Street at the island to calm traffic and improve safety through the intersection.  Railroad Avenue will be paved in the area in and around the island, as well as Simpson Street and south to Minnie Street.  Traffic control signage will be in place, and flaggers will be present when necessary.

The Sidewalk portion of the project will continue, replacing existing deficient sidewalk along City Hall/Bea’s Place/Methodist Church (Simpson St) and filling in gaps along Simpson to Route C with ADA-compliant sidewalks.

Completion date is October 31, 2025.

Jefferson Asphalt repaired/patched several areas, including the intersection of Marion and Jefferson Streets, in preparation for BlackRoads Paving to apply sealant to all streets within the community. Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 21st and is anticipated to be completed within three (3) weeks.  The area in and around City Hall will not be treated due to the Intersection project and new paving associated with it.  All efforts will be made to keep one lane open at all times; however, occasional closures may be required.  BlackRoads will provide a schedule identifying the timeframe that can be expected for the affected streets; they will work with residents regarding driveway access and parking.  The schedule will be posted on Facebook and the city’s website and updated as needed.  Updates will be provided throughout the project.
